Private paradise, great for foodies and walkers alike...

Foragers who fancy making a weekend of their adventure get a 10% discount at The Bookhouse, which sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms Located in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, you simply walk up the lane and straight into the hills. Quirky and cosy with an open fire, comfy sofas, Chromecast and LOTS of books and games. There's a wonderful pub just half a mile away too!

The Bookhouse is an annex attached to a larger house. It is completely independent of the main house, though, with its own front door. Situated on two storeys, downstairs is a large, cosy room with an open fire, sofas, a TV and lots of books and games. There's also a conservatory with a drinks cooler and cooking facilities, and a door into the extensive - and very beautiful - gardens. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom (shared by both bedrooms) and a quirky kitchen/diner, featuring an immaculate and original 1950s sink unit, next to the larger of the two bedrooms. In addition, there is a telescope available for the use of our guests. Being slightly away from the main village means that there's no light pollution here, and the night skies are truly breathtaking; it's for good reason that the Brecon Beacons National Park was recently made the first Dark Skies Reserve in the UK.

Guest Access
The entire Bookhouse is yours, as well as access to the wonderful gardens with views of the Brecon Beacons. In the summertime, you can sit under the maple tree and have breakfast. The Bookhouse is a walkers' paradise since the lane running past the house is the main route onto Pen y Fan and the glorious Cwm Oergham valley, a National Trust reserve as well as part of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Interaction with Guests
We live next door, so if there is anything you need we can help. We also offer a pick-up service from the pub if you don't fancy the walk!

The Neighbourhood
Llanfrynach is a wonderful, quirky village, three miles outside of the pretty Georgian town of Brecon. There are plenty of good places to eat. Enjoy delicious food at The White Swan just a half a mile away from the house, or, at 2 miles away, the Three Horseshoes at Groesfordd; stroll round the lovely churchyard (the largest in Wales) and see if you can spot the grave of a pirate; note that the village loos are run by the community and are twinned with loos in Burundi; if you need reading material, the telephone kiosk has been turned into a free library! You are also close to Talybont on Usk, just three miles away (take a stroll along the picturesque Brecon and Monmouth Canal and maybe enjoy a hearty pub lunch at one of the four pubs in the village!)

Getting Around
You can get a bus from the village into Brecon or further afield. If you need a lift to or from a station, if we can accommodate this then we will, otherwise there's a decent taxi service.

Other Things to Note
We have two dogs, both very friendly border collies. It's likely that you may see them and that they will want to say hello! They are not allowed to access the Nook, though.

Also, we provide a selection of teas, coffee, juices, a pint of milk, a loaf of bread, butter and various (home made) jams etc.

We have high speed broadband and Chromecast, which means you can stream TV programmes and films from your iPhone, iPad or laptop. It's very easy to use; all you need to do is download the app. We also have stacks of DVDs in the large Chinese cupboard for you to use as well as a record player with a selection of vinyl albums.
