Before I became a writer and forager, I had a long career in the music industry, both as a musician and also as the owner of a record company. Actually, there are strong connections between gardening, plants, and music; I’ve met many professional gardeners who are also musicians and vice versa. And the tendrils of connection between these two disciplines continue to inspire me!
One of the best bits about writing books, for me, is when people ask me to talk about them. I love doing this and try to make my talks as entertaining as possible, however large or small the audience. I’ve appeared at the Hay Festival, Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens, Hatfield House and various stately homes around the UK; I’ve done talks in bookshops and schools and for the WI, as well as having the pleasure of appearing at lots of festivals including Latitude, Wilderness, and Port Eliot and the Green Man. I’ve also appeared on national TV and radio.
I’m proud to be a member of the Association of Foragers.
I’m also a member of the Guild of Food Writers. One of my books was recently shortlisted for a prize, for services to the British Food Industry.
